Review: Ration Book for Christmas

With Christmas approaching, the Brogan family of London's East End are braving the horrors of the Blitz. With the men away fighting for King and Country and the ever-present dangers of the German Luftwaffe's nightly reign of death and destruction, the family must do all they can to keep a stiff upper lip. For Jo, the youngest of the Brogan sisters, the perils of war also offer a new-found freedom. Jo falls in love with Tommy, a man known for his dangerous reputation as much as his charm. But as the falling bombs devastate their neighbourhood and rationing begins to bite, will the Brogans manage to pull together a traditional family Christmas? And will Jo find the love and security she seeks

Review: Pictures in the Sky

Pictures in the Sky She gave up on romance years ago. He’s going through the motions. Their lives change forever when he makes contact out of the blue.  With her daughter leaving the nest, Michelle Cameron would rather spend her time with good friends, a glass of fizzy and a box set, than with another idiot bloke chipping away at her self-esteem. But when childhood friend Daniel Helmsley gets back in touch, the years roll away on a tide of laughter and friendship, which soon gives way to another roller coaster of love, excitement and panic. Can Michelle let herself trust again? What if Dan is just another idiot bloke, disillusioned with the present and nostalgic for the past? If you like

Cover Reveal: Hermana

I’m so thrilled to announce the design by Amanda Walker. Her artistic presentation perfectly encapsulates the emotions of the novel - the hope, wistfulness, challenge and triumph of a missionary seeking to serve God and reconcile imperfect humanity to a divine message. Each day as I wrote Hermana, I rehearsed the missionary charge in Doctrine and Covenants chapter 4: Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work; For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul; And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory

My Words: #presidentnelsonchallenge

The first weekend of October, the leader of my faith tradition issued a challenge to women to abstain from social media for 10 days. You can hear the whole challenge here. Anyone following my social media knows that I embarked on this challenge from a less than enthusiastic space. I don’t like to undertake any spiritual responsibility without due diligence, but the timing of the challenge combined with my need to publicize a book about faith meant I needed to engage the challenge immediately. Many of my friends in other faith traditions criticized the move, calling out blind obedience and criticizing my faith for an ongoing silencing of women. I didn’t really have an answer for either of tho

Author Interview: Megan Elder Evans

Newcomer Megan Elder Evans was kind enough to offer up an interview. To get started, here's an excerpt from her novel, Fate's Arrangement. No one spoke as Cristiana entered the gates of the castle. The guards’ averted their gazes to distant walls or their shoes, and the servants ceased their whispered conversations. Something was wrong, and Cristiana had a feeling it was what she dreaded. Over the past four years, Earl Edmund Garrard III had presented sixteen men as suitable husbands, the last two scoundrels. Baron Heinrich von Gerolt of Bavaria was caught in the treasury by the guards. He claimed he got lost on the way to his bedchamber, which was located two floors above and on the far sid

Review: Right on the Monet

New York Claude Monet painting is stolen Mediterranean Of all the things Harry Chase had imagined in his life, being a drummer on a cruise ship band was not one that would have occurred to him. And yet, there he was. Centre stage, behind a young female singer along with his mates, Dave, Tony and Steve. Which meant that getting involved in a jewellery theft, an on-board massage parlour and the hunt for an Old Master was even further from his mind as he cracked the snare drum. And yet, this was exactly how he found himself being questioned by Interpol ….. Review Almost over-the-hill Harry joins the ranks of Mrs. Pollifax and Jessica Fletcher as a hapless detective forced into service by circum
